Virgin Atlantic has returned to San Franciso.
Virgin Atlantic has resumed flights from London Heathrow to San Francisco. The move follows an announcement by the White House that it will lift the entry ban for UK and European Union citizens. The travel ban for fully vaccinated travelers was lifted more than 18 months after former President Donald Trump imposed the ban in the early stages of the COVID19 pandemic.

The decision to open the borders to certain districts comes after intense lobbying by the United Kingdom and the European Union to allow their citizens access to the United States. The Guardian newspaper quotes British Prime Minister Boris Johnson as saying:
"It's a fantastic boost for business and commerce, and it's great that family and friends from both sides of the pond can get together."
The ban is only being done officially. Lifted in early November, but that hasn't stopped Virgin Atlantic from resuming flights to San Francisco International Airport (SFO). On October 4, 2021, the UK plans to end its green, yellow and red county traffic light system in favor of a single red list. The government has also stated that people arriving in England later this month will no longer need to have a PCR test two days after arrival and can opt for the cheaper lateral flow test.
Prior to the changes, citizens of the UK or Red List (high risk) counties were required to be quarantined for ten days in a government approved hotel at £ 2,285 (US $ 3,095) per adult. The new rule changes are expected to be announced next Thursday and travel industry experts forecast an increase in bookings for foreign travel.
Flight time between LHR and SFO is approximately 11 hours.

San Francisco is not the size of New York or Chicago, but it is still overweight. San Francisco, home to the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and the largest Chinatown outside of Asia, offers many things to see and do.
San Francisco was built on 48 hills and is famous for its colorful cable cars, Victorian architecture, and foggy weather.
City by the Bay attractions include:
Fisherman's Wharf - Once a center of San Francisco's fishing industry, Fisherman's Wharf is a dining, shopping and entertainment destination that draws thousands of visitors each year.
Alcatraz Island: Once a notorious federal prison, Alcatraz was home to the likes of Al Capone and George "Machine Gun" Kelly. Described as unavoidable due to the strong currents in the bay, you can visit Alcatraz with a 15-minute ferry ride from Pier 33.
Napa Valley - The Napa Valley is arguably the most famous wine country in the United States and is also home to some of the best restaurants in the country.
